Do you know how many dogs I’ve met that get scared or anxious around men because in their previous home men hit them? A lot, and they are very protective of the women who have adopted them now.

Men who are violent towards women are often violent towards animals as well. They think we’re all chattel. If a man wants you to choose between your dog or cat or him, dump the guy. Those animals will love you for the rest of your life, loyal and true.

Actually, I have something to add.

The other day I saw a story where a woman was asking why her dogs had suddenly started growling at her boyfriend whenever he was in the same room as her son.

And my immediate thought was ‘that boyfriend has hurt the kid somehow.’

Spoilers: that was exactly the case.

Trust ur dogs when they say something is off.

The first time my sister came to visit, via plane, after I got my dog, pupper growled at her and wouldn’t go near her for the first day. Next visit was by car (two day drive)and pupper LOVED my sister. They snuggled and played and none of us could figure out why the change. We thought maybe the scent of my sisters cat had lingered on her clothes, making that first visit a rough one. Whereas when she came by car, the scent had had time to wear off. Well that was partially true…

Fast forward about six months when I went north to visit my family. My sister walked into my parents’ house and pupper ran to greet my sister. Stopped dead in her tracks and started growling and barking. Hackles raised, full protection mode. My sisters husband had just walked in behind her.

My precious puppy wanted NOTHING to do with him. She barked, growled, ran away, and sat between him and my sister. Y'all my dog had spent maybe a weekend a half around my sister but protected her like this was her flesh and blood.

Eventually, my sister filed for divorce on grounds of “Extreme and repeated mental, emotional, and sexual abuse.” Divorce was final in less than a month because her claims were substantiated.

Trust the dog, honey. They KNOW.

I’ve never owned dogs, but I used to work with horses (which are a lot like big dogs).

There was this one horse I worked with named Tonto. He was a doll. He followed me like a puppy, snuck treats out of my pocket, he was the sweetest thing. We were practically inseparable.

A guy I was considering dating came to visit me one day, and Tonto wanted NOTHING to do with him. Normally well behaved, he shoved himself between us and would NOT let this guy near me. He was stomping, acting really aggressive, and tried to bite the guy. This horse was practically dragging me back toward the barn. At that moment, despite being like, 17, I knew something was up, and ultimately things didn’t pan out for guy and me.

A year later I found out he had lied about his age (he said he was 18 but he was actually 27) he was arrested for sexually assaulting an 11 year old girl.

TRUST THE ANIMALS.

I used to have a Wire Hair Fox Terrier, one of the most intelligent dogs I’ve ever met, incredibly sweet animal. One day I brought a new friend over, she backed away from him, growling, we all thought it was because he had crazy colored hair, a weird haircut and a bunch of piercings in his face. I went on to be friends with him for several years. Well, he fucked me over one too many times and I cut him out of my life…. a couple years after that, I found out he had been arrested, but no one knew what for, after some digging, turns out it was for having a ridiculous amount of date rape drugs on him on his way to a big punk rock fest in Vegas.

TRUST ANIMALS BEFORE PEOPLE.

derekwoodsphotography:

Look like I got a few posts to “review;” I’ll pass.

Tumblr inspired me to return to photography after 10 years. The family and friends I found her motivated me, gave me a platform to connect with others, and long before social media became shameless ads and self promotion, Tumblr was the community where you could share the work of those that inspired you, rather than just asking for more attention.

I get nudity is a challenging slippery slope to “porn,” and the App Store doesn’t allow Apps with “porn,” but we need more nuanced solutions in today’s climate.

To call all things that portray female nudity “porn,” is to take a major step back in a platform that was promoting and normalize so much conversation about gender, sexuality, body image, and even art. Sure, there’s porn. But just like life, you chose your adventure on here and every part of the internet; and life.

What becomes dangerous is the removal of non-hateful nude content as negative, when hateful non-nude content can be presented as normal.

I remember thinking years ago that the next generations will grow up with such a healthy sexual world view because of platforms like Tumblr; but it looks like it won’t be Tumblr to hold that torch.

From even a business standpoint this move doesn’t make sense. Tumblr won’t draw away the audience from IG by playing the same game. So, it killing off the audience that comes here and contributes content, in hopes of playing with the same restrictions as IG; it will die.

Twitter has never been a place that I found the community I found here. It’s never felt like a natural home, to myself or my content. But I think that’s going to have to change and it’s really the last platform for nude photography.

I’ve been on Tumblr over 10 years and it looks like I’ll only be on Tumblr a few more days until my accounts are deleted.

It was a honor and a pleasure to share with you all.

I hope to find you all in other social media platforms; but more importantly I hope that we can all find new ways to support each other.

Shout out to Tumblr for acting like every other typical oppressive institution and censoring nudity and self expression through sexuality, both of which are healthy and beautiful, neither of which are toxic or dangerous. Bonus points for making it significantly more difficult for sex workers to make a safe, and honest living.

You really aren’t helping anyone, including yourselves. The reason Tumblr has done so well up to now is because it was the one place that stood for freedom. We felt safe that we could post whatever we wanted here, unimpeded by thoughts of “Am I going to get in trouble for this?”. That’s incredibly healthy, and important for people to be able to do. This reeks of “Advertisers don’t want to buy ads because there’s nudity here”, I get it, you need to make money, unfortunately, that’s a catch-22 situation, because you’re going to alienate the majority of your user base with censorship, and then drive away the rest with obnoxious ads from places we already don’t give a shit about. In the meantime, putting actual lives at risk by taking away one of the last safe places for sex workers to exist. This is an incredibly short-sighted decision, and is almost assuredly the beginning of the death of Tumblr
